Hearty Nutrition Health Coaching:

Sustenance to make the heart sing….

  • Hearty* = exuberant, cheerful, lively, animated, vivacious, energetic, dynamic, enthusiastic; warm, cordial, amiable, good-natured.
  • Nutrition* = Food, nourishment, or the process of obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.

Together, hearty nutrition is an approach to nourishing the self to find the right sustenance to fuel one’s inner heart longings, and to live life to the fullest.

When society’s demands keep us from living from the heart we’re left feeling unfulfilled and “hungry” for something more, we reach for something to fill us up. The body and soul suffer when that hunger is met with overeating, eating the wrong foods, skipping exercise, overworking, “shopping ’til we drop,” or any other excessive behavior. Trouble is — after all that — we’re still hungry for something to really nourish us.

Hearty Nutrition health coaching is an integrative approach to nutrition – examining body composition, hunger, cravings and the nutritional content of meals, as well as other strategies to help the individual make choices to curb stress and satisfy the hungers of the heart. I am Kathy McNeely, MS, CNS, LDN, Nutritionist and Health Coach. I meet individuals in person at Center Point Healing in College Park, MD, via Skype and Face Time  by appointment.  I also work at a non-profit clinic in Wheaton MD with mostly Spanish-speaking and uninsured residents of Montgomery County.

I practice a holistic approach to nutrition, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect the whole.I look at your age, health, activity level, blood type, metabolic rate and personal preferences to determine your dietary needs. A balanced approach to nutrition includes more high-quality, organic vegetables, fruits, complex carbohydrates, protein, water; and less inflammatory and artificial foods.

I have spent most of my adult life interacting with cultures other than my own. I lived and worked in rural Central America for five years, spending most of my time in northern Guatemala training indigenous women as community leaders. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I trained in nutrition at Maryland University of Integrative health, I studied ministry and counseling at Harvard Divinity School and have served as a chaplain at Williams College in Western Massachusetts.

From 1998- 2014 I worked in Washington DC as an advocate on international hunger, human rights and economic justice issues. I have traveled extensively throughout east and southern Africa, Central and South America. I speak Spanish fluently.
